    Mercat de Felip II

In the 1960s, this area was known as the "barrio de los indianos", named after the Catalans who had emigrated to the West Indies in the 18th and 19th centuries and made their fortunes. The market opened in 1966 to provide food for an area that was growing considerably due to the influx of people from the rest of Spain who made it their home. The distinctive architectural features include the original system of skylights, resembling hats, which flood the market with natural light. Seventy years later, the local residents remain loyal customers at the market they have known all their lives.
