This year it will be staging the world's most prestigious sailing competition and oldest sporting event: the America's Cup.

The competition consists of different races that will culminate in the final match in October.
The preliminary regattas are held in preparation for the Louis Vuitton Cup. The participating teams compete for the right to challenge the defenders, the current holders of the cup, Emirates Team New Zealand.
The competition ends with the Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup Match, a final duel in which the New Zealanders will face the winners of the Louis Vuitton Cup to decide who will be the winner of the prestigious trophy.
INEOS Britannia (United Kingdom), Alinghi Red Bull Racing (Switzerland), Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli (Italy), New York Yacht Club American Magic (USA) and Orient Express Racing Team (France) will be the teams facing the New Zealanders. They will be competing on AC75 boats, which are known as the Formula 1 of the sea and include the latest technology that allows them to reach speeds of over 100 km/h.

Did you know... for the first time in its history, the Puig Women's America's Cup will be competed? This edition It will also include the Unicredit Youth America's Cup. The teams for both events will be competing on AC40 boats. The twelve teams in these two categories will be based at the Port Olímpic and the participants will include a Spanish team, Sail Team BCN.

How to watch the races
The race area is between the old harbour, the Port Vell, the Port Olímpic and the Port Fòrum. On race days, races will start at 2pm and run until 4pm or 5pm, depending on the schedule.
In the ticket free fanzones in Plaça del Mar and on Bogatell beach, which have direct views of the race area and giant screens to ensure you don't miss any of the action.
In the America's Cup Race Village along the Moll de la Fusta wharf where you'll find the main stage which hosts interviews with the participants. The village offers exhibitions and entertainments, giant screens to allow you to follow the competition, and food outlets. Activities and events will continue in the village after the race has ended.
