#ExperienceBarcelona, an alternative way of enjoying an intensive weekend in the city
There are many ways to explore Barcelona: on your own, with friends or family, by day or by night, at the beach or wandering the streets. Each experience is sure to be different, but equally satisfying! There are simply as many Barcelonas as there are experiences you want to enjoy.
That is what Sílvia (@silviarpetit) and Ernesto (@ernest0__) had the chance to discover when they teamed up with Alia (@pupina) and Davide (@il_mastromatto) from Italy for an activity-packed weekend in Barcelona. They hadn't met before but why should that matter? Everything was prepared for a unbeatable #ExperienceBarcelona!
MODERNISM AND GASTRONOMY, IDEAL FOR AN AFTERNOON IN BARCELONA
The first of their #ExperienceBarcelona activities could not have been more special: a tour through the recently renovated and reopened Casa Vicens, the first project of the acclaimed architect Antoni Gaudí as a novice. Located in the district of Gracia, Casa Vicens can easily be missed by those who choose to visit the better known works of the great architect. However, don't be fooled by the term "novice". Although it actually was the first of the famous buildings designed by Gaudí in Barcelona, this architectural gem is a delight for the senses and an artistic oasis in the heart of the city.
At Casa Vicens you will be able to observe the oriental style that was typical of Gaudí's early period, whether you note it while being enchanted by the spectacular facade or while losing yourself in its myriad rooms, notable among which is a smoking room with incredible papier-mâché decorations that have survived intact to this very day. And what can you say about the terrace with the small dome that provides the ideal place in which to take a photo? We could carry on listing the reasons for including a visit to Casa Vicens but, as with all Gaudí's works, nothing compares to seeing it "in situ".
After this exploration of Modernism, we move on to the Raval district to discover the delights of local viniculture and cuisine (yum, yum!) with Food Wine Tours Barcelona. This experience will educate your palate to capture the subtle differences between wines from different regions, through visits to some of Barcelona's most famous wine bars such as Bodega Notariat and Bodega La Palma. Naturally, all this will be accompanied by a variety of delicious tapas guaranteed to enthrall the most demanding of gourmets while listening to the explanations of the expert local guide who will liven up the evening with anecdotes and secret tales of the city. Believe us: if your intention is to discover Barcelona through its tapas and wine, this is your best bet.
Este fin de semana @foodwinetours me hizo sentir como una auténtica guiri haciéndome descubrir de nuevo los vinos del pais y la comida de nuestra tierra en los locales más emblemáticos del Born, que aun no entiendo por qué nunca había ido!! SEA AND VIEWS TO COMPLETE AN INTENSIVE WEEKEND
After a busy Saturday afternoon, we start Sunday in the most relaxing way possible: with an hour and a half's cruise by sailing boat along Barcelona's coastline. What better way to enjoy the spectacular city skyline than from the sea? Thanks to the route offered by Sailing Experience Barcelona you can enjoy a vermouth on board while sailing along and taking in the sights such as the Columbus statue, Barceloneta and the Maremagum, the historic Castle of Montjuic… at the same time as your professional skipper teaches you how to tackle the waves and use the wind to your advantage.
All good things must come to an end, but we couldn't finish this visit without an activity to match the heights of your expectations. That's why the next stop is the Telefèric de Montjuïc cable car for its aerial crossing from the mountain of the same name and which allows us to discover three fantastic views over the area: the park stop, for the Joan Miró Foundation, the MNAC and the Spanish Village; the castle stop where, in addition to finding out about the history of the fortress, you can also stroll through the Botanical Gardens and the Joan Brossa gardens; and the Mirador stop, which gives access to the Mirador del Alcalde lookout point next to the Miramar gardens and an excellent spot from which to take photos.
