Barcelona's Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium will be the venue for the European Athletics Championships Barcelona 2010 from 26th July to 1st August. Barcelona is hosting these championships for the first time in its history and one of its landmark venues will provide the setting so that 1,400 athletes from more than 50 countries across the continent, some of them major stars of the sport, can compete for the medals.

Over 300 million television viewers from around the world will be able to enjoy 47 athletics competitions, 42 of which will be held at the Olympic Stadium with the remaining five, the road events, taking place in the centre of Barcelona.

The decision to share the opening ceremony with the community – on the Avinguda María Cristina on 26th July – lends even greater appeal to Barcelona 2010.
