The Museu del Disseny de Barcelona brings together, under one roof, the collections of the Museu de les Arts Decoratives, the Museu de Ceràmica, the Museu Tèxtil i d'Indumentària and the Gabinet de les Arts Gràfiques, to showcase its vast heritage of more than 70,000 objects.

The Museu del Disseny is based on a common theme «From the decorative arts to design», and is dedicated to the culture of the object, focusing on pieces that are often from the everyday sphere, their design, manufacturing process, use and distribution, aesthetic and functional obsolescence, all from a 21st-century perspective.

The Disseny Hub Barcelona promotes the city's design and creative industries and is home to its design museum, the Museu del Disseny, the design centre, the Barcelona Centre de Disseny (BCD) and the arts association, the Foment de les Arts Decoratives (FAD). The building was designed by MBM Arquitectes, and consists of longitudinal base, part of which is located underground, and another standing 14.5 metres above the ground. The underground section of the building houses the conservation department and documentation and research sections, educational activities, offices, library and the bar and restaurant. The section above ground is shaped like a parallelepiped cut on the bias with a canopy projecting over the square. It houses the exhibition galleries, lecture theatre and auditorium. A lake outside connects both levels. The façade is clad in zinc and glass sheets that give the ensemble an industrial look with metallic reflections. David Torrents' LED light and sound installation is one of the highlights. You can use your voice to transform patterns of light in the ground.

The Disseny Hub Barcelona building has been built to the highest environmental-quality and sustainability standards. It generates its own energy through its photovoltaic pergola, the city's heating and cooling network, and ability to harness ground source energy and reduce the demand for heating and air-conditioning. The result is a reduction in energy consumption of 70%. The building has obtained sustainability certification A, making it one of the city's most efficient buildings.
