ANTONI CLAVÉ IN CAPITAL LETTERS
Exhibitions
09/05/2025 - 11/16/2025
This year marks the 20th
anniversary of the death of Antoni Clavé (Barcelona, 1913 – Saint-Tropez,
2005), one of the leading figures of 20th-century Catalan and Spanish art. To
mark the occasion, Palau Martorell and the Reial Cercle Artístic, in
collaboration with the Antoni Clavé Archives, pay tribute to him in his
hometown, Barcelona.
Curated by Aude Hendgen, Head
of the Antoni Clavé Archives, and José Félix Bentz, co-founder of Palau
Martorell and president of the Reial Cercle Artístic, the exhibition “Antoni
Clavé. In Capital Letters”highlights both the artist’s virtuosity and the
importance of his work in the development of European modern art.
The exhibition offers the
public a chance to rediscover Antoni Clavé’s work through the various stages of
his life, in the cities where he lived or that he loved most: Barcelona, Paris,
Tokyo and New York. Featuring over 80 works — some of them previously unseen —
from public and private collections, the exhibition spans from his earliest
pieces to his large institutional canvases, showcasing the versatility of an
artist who excelled in painting, printmaking, sculpture, and theatre set.
