Traces. Australian Aboriginal painting: tradition and contemporaneity.
12/08/2021 - 06/12/2022
Through a wide selection of paintings on eucalyptus bark, from its own collection, Barcelona's Museum of Ethnology and World Cultures is putting on an exhibition that, in addition to showing these pieces from the 1960s and 70s, proposes a contemporary debate. Facts such as the sudden arrival of Australian Aboriginal art on the international art scene or the interest contemporary artists of Aboriginal origins have in this creative expression, as is the case of Brook Andrew and Judy Watson, showcase the criticism of Australia's colonial past as well as global neo-colonialism. The Australian Aborigines have maintained their ancestral culture while simultaneously being transformed by events, and the exhibition "Trazos. Pintura aborigen australiana: tradición y contemporaneidad" allows us to connect past and present while giving us an understanding of the traditional culture..
