This exhibition revisits the history and formation of the collections of the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya through 135 works registered as deposits of the Servicio de Defensa del Patrimonio Artístico Nacional (SDPAN), an organisation created by the Franco regime after the Spanish Civil War. The pieces come from the repositories established by the Generalitat to protect artworks during the conflict, which later passed into state hands after the Francoist victory. Diverse in origin and typology, the group sheds light on how these transfers and custodial processes shaped the museum’s current collections.
