Trinh T. Minh-Ha - La Virreina Centre de la ImatgeBarcelona Art Season, Exhibitions
10/18/2025 - 03/15/2026

The Trinh T. Minh-Ha exhibition at La Virreina Centre de la Imatge offers an in-depth reflection on the multifaceted work of this filmmaker, composer, writer and academic born in Hanoi in 1952. Considered one of the most influential voices in independent cinema worldwide, Minh-Ha has been fundamental in the development of postcolonial and feminist theories, taking experimental and ethnographic cinema to new dimensions. Her work has challenged the traditional conventions of documentary and fiction, making her a benchmark in contemporary cinema.

Since her arrival in the United States in 1970, Minh-Ha has pioneered the exploration of new forms of visual narrative. Her filmography includes landmark films such as Reassemblage (1982), Naked Spaces - Living Is Round (1985), and Surname Viet Given Name Nam (1989), which have been pivotal in the rethinking of identity, culture and feminist narratives. She has also carried out outstanding academic work at the University of Berkeley, where she has taught classes on gender, rhetoric and women's studies.

This is Trinh T. Minh-Ha's first exhibition in Spain, and is therefore a unique opportunity to get to grips with her disruptive and transformative approach to film and visual theory.
