In 1873, Bruckner wrote his Third Symphony in D minor, which he dedicated to Richard Wagner. This piece, clearly inspired by Beethoven's Ninth, marks his creative peak and was quickly championed by Gustav Mahler. Now the Granada-born conductor Pablo Heras-Casado is returning to the Palau de la Música to conduct this symphony. The evening will be rounded off with Mahler's Rückert lieder, a cycle of five songs based on texts by the poet after whom they are named, to be performed by British mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly.
