Mey Rahola (León 1897-Vaucresson 1959) was one of the few female photographers to make a name for herself in the field of artistic photography in Spain. Between 1934 and 1936, her work took on a public dimension through publications, prizes and exhibitions. With the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, her promising career was cut short, but she continued taking photos whilst in exile. Her work is pioneering and shows all her facets as an independent woman, a traveller, ironic and empathetic. Now, after three years of oblivion, the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya [National Art Museum of Catalonia] is showcasing her work with an exhibition that also displays 14 recently acquired photographs. They are displayed chronologically, so that the public can appreciate a work that was constantly attuned to the issues of her time.
