Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler - Museu Picasso -Picasso Celebration -1973.2023, Exhibitions
12/02/2022 - 03/19/2023

Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler (1884-1979) was the pioneering dealer of Cubism. In his gallery on Rue Vignon in Paris, Kahnweiler promoted Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso, André Derain and Maurice de Vlaminck, and later Juan Gris and Fernand Léger. He was able to build an international network of Cubist collectors from scratch, and to surround himself with the best art critics. Moreover, as a literary man, he became a publisher bringing together carefully edited books by poets with Cubist painters such as Apollinaire and Derain, in L'Enchanteur pourrissant, in 1909 or Max Jacob and Picasso, in Saint Matorel, in 1910, among others. His work was interrupted by the two world wars, but he continued to defend great artists. Now, the Museu Picasso [Picasso Museum] offers an exhibition devoted to Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler, which shows his personality and his activity through the works by the artists in his gallery and also his relationship with Catalonia.
