The "Francesc Viñas" International Contest will celebrate its 61st anniversary in 2024 as one of the most prestigious and solid competitions in the world. This singing competition summons more than fifty aspirants every year from all over the world and has the support of the most influential opera houses in the world, as the Gran Teatre del Liceu has an agreement with the opera houses of Madrid, Paris, London, Berlin, Milan, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Beijing and Moscow to hold preliminary auditions. The contest was established in 1963 by Jacint Vilardell, as a way to forever remember the Catalan tenor Francesc Viñas. The different preliminary phases will be held throughout 2023, culminating in a grand finale and a concert with the winners.
