10/15/2021 - 03/06/2022

We live surrounded by sculptures in cities and buildings, and in our imaginations sculpture assumes the form of a classical figure. Yet this artistic discipline is more dynamic today than ever before. What course has it taken over time? The exhibition "El sentido de la Escultura" (The Meaning of Sculpture) organised by Fundació Joan Miró proposes an analysis of contemporary sculptures to show how, in the 20th century, sculpture moved beyond mere representation, and how in the 21st century it has been transformed by new techniques and new sensibilities. We will be able to reflect on this through works by artists such as Antoni Gaudí, Julio González, Alexander Calder, Joan Miró, Apel·les Fenosa, Lygia Clark, On Kawara, Robert Smithson, Bruce Nauman, David Medalla, Eva Lootz, Susana Solano, Pipilotti Rist and Wolfgang Tillmans, among others.
