With the Messiah, Handel took a different direction from his other oratorios, which had a marked Italian influence, to embrace the older German passions and cantatas. Composed in London in 1741 in just three weeks, the Messiah is traditionally associated with Christmas although in fact the oratorio covers the entire life of Jesus. In December, the Auditorium will be staging this entire magnificent masterpiece, with no adaptations or shortcuts, which will be conducted by the chief conductor Kazushi Ono.
