In the Cerro de los Batallones archeological site, located in the current Madrid region, fossils have been found of mastodons and large predators who lived there 9 million years ago. These are animals which are now extinct and the saber-toothed tiger is one notable example. Through the paleontological remains found in this exceptionally well preserved site, the Cosmocaixa is offering us a journey to the past to learn about the fauna which previously populated our lands, such as the giant tortoise, the mastodon, and giraffes and horses which we no longer see in today's world.
