Carmen by Bizet Classical music and Opera
07/04/2019 - 08/25/2019

Carmen, the famous comic opera in four acts, with a libretto by Henri Melihac and Ludovic Halévy and music by Georges Bizet, is based on a novel by Prosper Merimée. It was first shown on 3 March 1875 in Paris but was not performed in Spain until 1881. Despite being classified as a comic opera, Carmen also has a tragic facet and well-defined characters, reaching its full magnificence thanks to its harmonic and melodic music which is undoubtedly the main reason it is still so successful today. The Palau de la Música has programmed a staged version lasting two and a half hours including an intermission and which features a symphony orchestra, soloists, a choir, children’s choir and more than 90 artists on stage.
