The artist Jaume Plensa (Barcelona 1955) is mainly considered as a sculptor, but his work has gone through a variety of disciplines. As his artistic intention is to develop relationships and include human beings in them rather than construct objects, Plensa's work reflects on the human condition: from its physical and spiritual essence to the consciousness of self and of the past, covering moral codes and dogmas and the relationship with nature. The monographic exhibition that MACBA is dedicating to his work covers his output from 1980 to the present by tracing the dialogue produced between works that represent the human figure and his abstract pieces. This gives us a clearer perception of the binomials always present in his work, such as light/dark, silence/noise, spiritual/material and life/death.
