Giving voices. Erkan Özgen. Exhibitions and activities, Film
11/13/2018 - 02/24/2019
The film "Purple Muslin" by Turkish artist Erkan Özgen was presented for its world premiere at Manifesta 12 (Palermo, Italy, 2018) and earned unanimous praise from the audience. It tells the real story of Yazidi women who escaped the threat of Islamic State forces in Iraq and Syria and sought refuge in northern Iraq. Özgen allows them to relate their own individual stories and their shared experiences of war, suffering and displacement. The film, produced by the Han Kefkens Foundation, now forms the basis for an individual exhibition by Erkan Özgen at the Fundació Antoni Tàpies. The exhibition is supplemented by a public program of lectures and exchanges with experts from different areas who will help give a political and social context to the issues raised in the film.
