The flamenco singer José Mercé from Malaga is one of the few in this genre who can point to a long list of his own hits all firmly rooted in flamenco. His real name is José Soto Soto, but he adopted Mercé as his stage surname in recognition of the years he spent singing in the choir of the Basílica de la Merced in his home city. He was part of the Antonio Gades company and played roles in the films "Bodas de Sangre" and "Flamencos" by Carlos Saura. José Fernández Torres, Tomatito, could not have been schooled in a better way: he played flamenco guitar for Camarón de la Isla, with whom he recorded the legendary record "La leyenda del tiempo" in 1979. Since then, this guitarist from Almeria has developed not only his flamenco roots but also explored fusion as with the famous duo with jazz pianist Michel Camilo, or his collaboration with Omar Faruk Tekbilek, from Turkey. Now, these two renowned figures of the flamenco world have come together to collaborate on a piece of work that they will perform live at the Palau de la Música as part of the 50th Voll-Damm Barcelona International Jazz Festival.
