The Fundació Mies van der Rohe was set up in 1983 by the Barcelona City Hall with the initial purpose of reconstructing the German Pavilion designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition. In accordance with its objectives, the Fundació organises awards, congresses, conferences, exhibitions, workshops and cultural events.

The program of activites for 2018 includes an intervention in collaboration with MACBA, avant-garde music with the Fundación Goethe, video art linked to the Loop Festival, dance and contemporary music with students from the Institut del Teatre and the ESMUC or an intervention of Mileece within the framework of the SONAR. All the interventions are specifically created for the Pavilion, generating new looks and enhancing it as a space of inspiration and experimentation.

This year the film series Pantalla Pavelló and the Barcelona Architecture Week also consolidate, in which the Pavilion will be one of the leading spaces but will also reach each district with street exhibitions about the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award.

383 project are competing in the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - the Mies Van Der Rohe Award 2019.
The process culminates in the EU Mies Award Day on 7 May at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona with the opening of the exhibition, lectures and debates, a presentation of the catalog and the awards ceremony.

Geometry of Light by Luftwerk & Iker Gil: an immersive intervention at the Barcelona Pavilion envisioned as a contemporary lens for this important masterpiece, highlighting and expanding upon the architectural and material features of this structure. In concert with the projected light and patterns, a custom-designed sound piece by Oriol Tarragó is integral to this experience. From 10th to 17th February.

Open doors 2019: 10th February (Santa Eulàlia), 23rd April (Sant Jordi), 19th May (Museums Day) and 24th September (La Mercè).
