Learn the art of 'trencadís' mosaic devised by Antoni Gaudí and discover all the secrets as you create your own mosaics. Come and enjoy the Gaudí experience on these workshops for adults, families and children in the centre of Barcelona.
Trencadís is a type of mosaic made with irregular shards of pottery, marble or glass that was wide spread in modernista architecture
. Antoni Gaudí took the technique one step further by using ceramic and pottery rejects, plates and coffee cups, and gave the pieces their final shape with a hammer and pliers so that the pieces would fit together perfectly. Today we can still see original examples of Gaudí's handiwork in nearly all his Barcelona landmarks: Park Güell, the Casa Batlló, La Pedrera and the Sagrada Família.
During the workshop, you'll learn how to handle tools, choose your design and colours and create your first work in 'trencadís'. You'll learn the technique and take away with you a very special and unique reminder of Gaudí's Barcelona
The length of the workshop depends on the type of object you want to make and the complexity of your drawing. It will take two hours to make a photo frame, an elephant, a heart or a salamander; or four hours to make a large mirror or place mat. At this workshop for kids (aged 3 upwards) you can choose to work on one of the following: a photo frame, a drinks mat or the lid of a wooden box plus a fridge magnet. The decoration will be made from pre-cut acrylic mosaic pieces in a wide range of colours. The workshops last 60 minutes on average, depending on the age of the child and whether they need their parents’ help. All the materials and the object to be decorated are included in the price. And they'll all be able to take their mosaic home with them!.
The artist has received the diploma “Master Artisan and Educator” due to the excellent quality of her work and for bringing the trencadís technique to a wider audience. What does your booking include?
