25 years of the Barcelona Bus Turístic

Barcelona’s official city sightseeing tour celebrates its quarter century. More than 21,000,000 visitors have discovered the city on the landmark double-decker buses that offer discounts at the main places of interest. The key event of the celebrations is a free, interactive, retrospective exhibition looking at the highlights in the history of the bus and the city.

100 years of La Pedrera

This year is the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s La Pedrera, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Among the events being organised for the celebrations are the inaugural exhibition about 20th-century architecture and furniture, performances on the façade, concerts, talks, workshops and a major festival of architecture.

Garmin Barcelona Triathlon 2012

On 7th October, Barcelona once again plays host to one of Europe’s biggest triathlons. More than 6,000 sportsmen and women and 36,000 spectators took part in the 2011 triathlon and this year’s event expects to attract even greater numbers. The triathlon will take place along its usual route: the seafront, the main streets and the city’s landmark areas.

The Gran Teatre del Liceu is the first theatre in the world to be awarded EMAS environmental management certification

The Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) is an environmental management tool, promoted by the European Union, which encourages businesses and organisations to look for ways to continually improve their environmental performance with the aim of reducing their environmental impact.

Barcelona also has other top-class cultural attractions that have been awarded this certification: Palau de la Música Catalana, the Museu d’Art Nacional de Catalunya, the Fundació Joan Miró and the CosmoCaixa.
