This exhibition takes us back to the period between the 18th and 20th centuries to explore the commercial, experiential and technological revolution that Catalonia went through during that time. From the development of commerce throughout the Mediterranean to expanding into transoceanic trade, from sailing ships to steam power, this voyage relates how Catalan navigation opened itself up to new worlds both economically and socially.
This year, the Barcelona Boat Show has got even bigger and is focusing on sustainability and caring for the sea. In its 58th edition, the Port Vell Moll de la Fusta and the Moll d'Espanya are raising awareness of the environmental care of the oceans with workshops on the damage plastic waste does at sea, the presence of more sustainable boats and several activities to raise environmental awareness. Furthermore, this event organized by Fira Barcelona has grown by 5 to 10% compared with the previous year and will further link Barcelona to a program of activities called "Gente de Mar".
This sporting event with three disciplines is undoubtedly on the rise; it currently forms part of the Olympic and Paralympic games, and athletes such as the British Brownlee brothers have increased the audience for this challenge combining swimming, cycling and running. It is also becoming a trend among amateurs who are looking for a more varied exercise that provides more than just one single sport. It is no surprise that the Barcelona Triathlon attracts thousands of people to its waterfront every year.
With three distances available, participants can choose between supersprint, sprint and olympic, taking part as individuals, in couples (both should finish the race together) or as a relay team (with two of more members sharing the effort). Apart from the sporting activity itself, Triexpo is held the day before the competition, a place where we can find the latest in trends and accessories and it is an ideal venue for getting a new triathlon kit or to meet other people taking part.
