    Mercat del Ninot

The market takes its name from the ship figurehead depicting a small child that was once displayed above the door of a local tavern in the 19th century. The tavern was very popular at the time because it sold inexpensive wine and eventually became known as "the tavern of the doll" (ninot, in Catalan). The market was built in 1933 not far from the tavern and took on this nickname. It also became a hub of community life. The market underwent a complete refit and reopened in 2015. It is included on the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia list. The original figurehead is on display at Barcelona's maritime museum, the Museu Marítim.
