Freemasonry is surrounded by mystery and allure. This organization originated in the twelfth century but is still around today. Now Palau Robert is holding an exhibition that showcases the history, characteristics and peculiarities of Freemasonry. The Freemasons define themselves as freethinkers, which has made them enemies of the powers that be throughout history. At its origins, in the Middle Ages, Freemasonry was a way of secretly transmitting knowledge, especially knowledge related to the construction of large buildings. At the beginning of the 18th century the society evolved to develop a more reflective and speculative character, and it was at this time that the official statutes were drawn up. The exhibition includes the contribution of some well-known Catalan Masons, such as Joan Prim, Clotilde Cerdà and Lluís Companys, as well as international members of the society, like Montesquieu, Benjamin Franklin, Winston Churchill, Harpo Marx and Josephine Baker.
