Bluebeard's Castle (1918), Béla Bartók's only opera and with a libretto by Béla Balázs, has a plot revolving around the cruel main character of the children's tale by Charles Parrault. It was composed in 1911 although it did not premiere until 1918. This masterpiece of musical theater from the 20th century, with obvious symbolic roots and clear influences from early Expressionism, constitutes an important reflection on human loneliness. It now comes to the Auditori conducted by Josep Pons and performed by the Barcelona Symphony and National Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC) which will also perform Brahms' Hungarian Dances and Dvorák's Slavonic Dances.
