The tradition of "Els tres Tombs" appears to go back to Roman times, as a worship to the sun to maintain the health of domestic and farm animals. Its name comes from the custom when horses and riders walked around three times at the beginning of the year, to invoke not to die violently or suffer any accident. This ancient tradition is maintained today in many villages of Catalonia, linked to the Sant Ramon del Portell Santuary and the legend of this saint. One of the most famous parades takes place in Igualada, where at the end of January, everyone who has animals may take them to be blessed. Decorated carts and carriages parade through the crowded streets of the city.
