Reproductions of some of the best artworks from the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) collection will be shown in Barcelona's streets from October 7th for a month and a half, thanks to an agreement between MNAC, Hewlett Packard (HP) and Turisme de Barcelona.

Barcelona will become an open air musuem with 33 digitally reproduced artworks produced at HP's Barcelona labs showing in four locations across town: along avinguda Diagonal, Passeig de Gràcia, Rambla de Catalunya and the streets of the Old Town (Ciutat Vella). The idea is to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the inauguration of what was the forerunner of MNAC as we know it today, and which for the first time brought together Catalan artworks from the Romanesque to the 20th century in the Palau Nacional on Montjuïc. HP is also celebrating the 25th year of its production centre in Barcelona. So, don't be surprised if you stumble across a painting by Casas or Picasso when walking in Barcelona this autumn.

This autumn will see the much-awaited inauguration of El Molino music hall on Avinguda Paral.lel. This doyenne hall will boast all the latest technology, yet remain true to its origins that date back to the early 1900s.

Then, Avinguda Parral.lel was at its heyday with a Broadway feel to it, a centre for grand theatres, musical halls and entertainment. Now the city wants to relaunch the avenue as a centre for art, culture and leisure, with the refurbished El Molino its sparkling gem. Barcelona is like no other city at Christmas, with bags of tradition. The Christmas lights bring all the festive cheer you might want, but there are some special features that make a Barcelona Christmas like no other. Don´t miss out on the traditonal festive foods like sweet torrons or escudella, a Christmas broth, or the outdoor Christmas fairs of Santa Llúcia in front of the Cathedral or that opposite the Sagrada Família.

Traditional Nativity Scenes are found like that in the town hall square, but perhaps it's the other Catalan traditions that visitors remember most like the tió, a tree trunk placed by the fireplace which when hit showers gifts and sweets on Christmas Eve. The New Year's party is very special with everyone eating a cluster of twelve grapes and toasting with cava as the clock strikes twelve midnight. Holidays are on Christmas Day (25th), Saint Steven's Day (26th), New Year's Day (1st) and the Three Kings´ Day (6th). On the evening of the 5th of January the three Kings arrive in Barcelona's port and parade through the streets accompanied by helpers who throw sweets out to the crowds. Christmas with a difference, and certainly one to remember.
