The Sagrada Família has improved its visitor services by updated its group booking system.

Since February this year, groups of nine people or more have been required to pre-book, specifying the date and time of their visit. Tour operators and official guides have two time slots reserved for their clients, from 9am to 11am and from 3pm to 5pm. Outside these periods, they will still be able to visit the church, provided they have pre-booked, but will have to go in with other visitors who are not on booked tours.

There is a dedicated entrance for groups by the ticket office on Carrer Marina (Nativity Façade) and they must use the exit on Carrer Sardenya (Passion Façade).

Current regulations specify that coaches must drop passengers by the Nativity Façade and pick them up by the Passion Façade. They are not allowed to stop for more than 15 minutes.

If a group wants to visit the church without pre-booking, they will have to queue at the ticket office for individual customers and won’t be entitled to special group rates.

The only exceptions are groups of eight people or fewer accompanied by a guide who can enter the church without having pre-booked but must always use the Passion Façade.

To make a booking please contact:

Admission is free on the first Sunday in the month and is for individual customers only.

To make a group booking, phone 93 256 30 22 from Monday to Friday between 10am and 1pm or e-mail museupicasso_reserves@bcn.cat

In order to ensure easier access for individual visitors and to avoid queuing, tickets can be purchased on the museum website.

Barcelona is the first European city to offer its visitors and residents the GoCar sightseeing experience.

GoCars are three-wheel, two-seaters equipped with an audio GPS system which tells the stories of the city’s landmarks and places of interest, like your own personal guide.

The on-line travel agency Lastminute.com is the Barcelona representative of this unusual vehicle hire service, which has already met with great success in the US cities of San Francisco, Miami and San Diego.

You can reserve and rent a GoCar on the Spanish version of the Lastminute.com website (Click on the ‘ocio’ – ‘leisure’ – tab) and pick up your vehicle at the specified location. The price includes rental, fuel, two safety helmets and insurance.

Drivers must be over 21 and hold an A1 or A driving licence.

The audio system is available in six languages: English, Catalan, Spanish, French, German and Italian and there are several routes available.

Barcelona City Council has published the guide The Barcelona Markets Routel to give impetus to a sightseeing trail through the city’s 46 food markets.

This map and guide is available from the Turisme de Barcelona tourist offices in English, Catalan, Spanish and French.

The market trail features four different routes:

The Historic Markets Route, which takes in landmark markets such as the Born and Santa Caterina, which were built in the late 19th century during a period of economic prosperity known as Gold Fever.

The Enblematic Markes Route features the Boqueria and the Encants, the city’s flea market, which are considered true landmarks due to their size, design and location. The Modernista Markest Route includes markets built during the Catalan art-nouveau, or modernista, period, and The New Markets Route features markets that were built as a result of the growth in Barcelona’s population in the middle of the 20th century.

After 230 years, this listed building will be open to visitors.
