The Fundació Suñol opened to the public in April 2007, and brings together the contemporary art collection acquired by its founder, Josep Suñol, during the past 35 years. The works that make up the collection enable us to reconstruct the history of 20th-century art, from the historic avant-gardes to the latest cutting-edge art.

Picasso, Miró, Saura, Tàpies, Giacometti, Barceló, Man Ray, Gordillo, Warhol…are just some of the artists whose works can be enjoyed at the first exhibition of the Foundation’s collection.

The collection is on show in a building on the Passeig de Gràcia, next to La Pedrera, which used to be the Suñol family home.

The Foundation has set up an exhibition space, Nivell Zero, where young artists will have the opportunity to show their works.

From this autumn, the Hotel Astoria will be showcasing a retrospective exhibition of works by the Catalan painter and cartoonist Ricard Opisso (1880-1966), who worked as a draughtsman for Antoni Gaudí and other artists and architects of the time. Opisso’s work comprises one of the most interesting sociological documents of 20th-century Catalan art and provides a detailed chronicle of life in Barcelona at the time, which is portrayed with affectionate irony, through a number of traditional scenes depicting local customs. His politically weighted satirical cartoons, which comment on society, are another aspect of Opisso’s work.
