The culture of rock now has its own temple in Barcelona: the newly-opened Museum of Rock located in Las Arenas commercial centre, a converted former bullring opposite the trade fair facilities on Plaça d'Espanya.

The museum's permanent collection covers the story of rock and its principal epochs with special rooms for the 60-70s, 80-90s, 2000s, and another featuring the origins of rock&roll –Elvis, Cash, Holiday, etc. Two other halls are set aside for special homage to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and finally there is a room for Spanish rock.

All in all, more than 400 items of memorabilia, over 50 gold and platinum records, more than 60 clothes worn by rock stars, dozens of signed musical instruments, and objects and rarities handled by the likes of Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, and many more.

Until the end of June the temporary exhibition space will be showing an exhibition featuring Queen.

The museum also wants to make visitors feel like rock stars too, with activities in the so called On Stage room complete with lighting and mock audience where you can sing your favourite songs and get a DVD as a souvenir. There is also a conference room ideal for special events (200 pax), a souvenir shop and the Happy Rock Restaurant.

From October 13th, 2011 to March 25th, 2012, visitors to Barcelona can catch one of the best retrospectives on Catalan artist Joan Miró. Co-organised by Tate Modern and the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, "Joan Miró: The Ladder of Escape" explores the wider context of the artist's work, bringing to light his political engagement and examining the influence of his Catalan identity, the Spanish Civil War and the rise and fall of Franco's regime.

Miró was among the most iconic of modern artists, evolving a Surrealist language of symbols that evokes a sense of freedom and energy in its fantastic imagery and direct colour. Often regarded as a forefather of Abstract Expressionism, his work is celebrated for its serene, colourful allure. However, from his earliest paintings onwards, there is also a more anxious and engaged side to Miró's practice, reflecting the turbulent political times in which he lived. This exhibition will explore these responsive, passionate characteristics across six decades of his extraordinary career.

El Molino ("The Windmill") became an icon of Barcelona's frenetic music hall and theatre heyday in the 50s and 60s. Now this doyenne has reopened with all the glitz and glamour, burlesque at its best thanks to new ownership and a whopping €15m investment to renew the inside of the building and create a state of the art music hall.

The move forms part of a wider city council policy aimed at making Avinguda Parel.lel Barcelona's premiere nightspot for entertainment and dining. And with just-opened eateries like Tickets, a tapas bar set up by world-leading chef Ferran Adrìa, and the new El Molino, the future looks bright.

El Molino opened last autumn and has enjoyed sellout shows since. The current cabaret show Made in Paral.lel is a comedy laced with burlesque, flamenco and 80s/90s hits, a non-stop spectacle with four bills, the first starting midday, from Wednesday to Sunday all with different fine gourmet dining options.
