The city's most authentic

Something old, something new. Objects, clothes, accessories and nearly everything in life can also have a second life. Nothing is old if we look at it afresh. This is the mission of second-hand markets. They have mushroomed throughout Europe bolstered by the growing popularity of vintage clothes and recycling. Barcelona wasn't going to be left behind, and every year new initiatives emerge that follow in the footsteps of these three classics.

Encants Barcelona
One of Europe's oldest flea markets which was first held at the height of Barcelona's trading boom in the 14th century. It stands in Plaça de las Glòries and has more than 470 traders. You'll find everything here: video games, cards, clothing, lamps, furniture, collectable magazines and everything beyond your imagination. You'll find it here too.

Address: Plaça de les Glòries
How to get there: Glòries (L1)
Opening times: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 9am to 8pm.

El Rastro de la Virgen
A second-hand market organised and run by a community association in the Raval. It's the perfect excuse to have a wander through the neighbourhood and scour this market with its second-hand items, all kinds of antiques and ecological goods.

Address: Carrer de la Verge
How to get there: Universitat (L1, L2)
Opening times: First Saturday in the month, 12 noon to 8pm.

Mercat de Sant Antoni
A haven for collectors. If a picture card, video game, film, record, CD, comic, book or anything else is missing from your collection this is the place for you. Not far from Plaça de Catalunya, this bustling market, thronged with people who share the same passion for different objects, is a spectacle in its own right.

Address: Mercat de Sant Antoni
How to get there: Sant Antoni (L2)
Opening times: Every Sunday, 8.30am to 2.30pm.

There are a wide variety of pop up markets devoted to music, fashion, retro accessories, vintage furniture and other collectables held at different times of the year. Make a note of the following: La Fábrica Singular, BrickLane BCN, Festivalet, Lost&Found, FleaMarket BCN…if your visit to Barcelona ties in with these dates, you simply have to go.
