Don Giovanni - MozartClassical music and Opera
06/19/2017 - 07/02/2017

After the success of The Marriage of Figaro in Prague, Mozart received a new assignment. Hence, in 1787 “Don Giiovanni, ossia il dissoluto punito” was conceived; an opera he composed between March and October, with libretto in Italian by Lorenzo da Ponte. He composed the overture of the opera the day before its premiere performance, so it opened, without any rehearsals, on 29 October at the State Theater of Prague. Don Giovanni is based on the legend of Don Juan, and is considered the musical work that best follows the legend of the conquerer. Indeed, the Danish philosopher, Kierkegaard, states in an essay of his book Enten – Eller, that this Mozart opera is the best work of art ever accomplished. We shall now have the opportunity to enjoy it at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, with a version conducted by Josep Pons, and with two top-level casts, led by Mariusz Kwiecien and Carlos Álvarez. The production also includes stage effects and projections to reflect the psyche of Don Giovanni.
