From 21 to 28 April, Barcelona is hosting the International Barcelona-Sant Jordi Movie Festival. This is a new event created with the aim of defending the cultural diversity within the Sant Jordi's day festivity.

The US actor, Richard Gere will open the event with his latest movie, Norman, which will be released at the Verdi movie theater on 21 April. The festival will also be attended by Bertrand Tavernier and Checco Zalone
The festival will have three main sections: the official section, dedicated to movies concerning literature, movies and history; the "Funny movies" section, with a selection of comedies; and "Educacine", a cross section in the festival, with educational-type movies.
The titles already confirmed in the official section, apart from Norman, are "Their Finest", "Maudie" and "Nagasaki: Recuerdos de mi hijo". They will all be shown for the first time in Spain.
The Festival closes on 28 April with a special gala event, where the winning movie of the Official Section will be shown, along with the movie to close the Festival, which has not yet been announced.
