The Museu de Ceràmica de Barcelona was founded in 1966, and since 1990 has been housed on the first floor of the Palau de Pedralbes, a 19th-century palace set among parkland which was extended and converted into a royal residence between 1922 and 1924.

The Museum de Ceràmica’s permanent collection showcases unique examples of Spanish ceramics, of unparalleled artistic value. The ceramic heritage is the result of the preservation of archaeological remains and acquisitions from private collections. Of special interest are the medieval pieces from the Almohade period, the objects in the Mudéjar style from Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia, the Morisco crockery from Paterna and Manises, the tableware and polychrome tile work from Spain’s Golden Age, examples from the Rococo period of Alcora, and works by contemporary artists.
The wealth of its collections has earned the Ceramics Museum international prestige and it is regarded as a leading centre for the study of traditional and contemporary ceramics. In addition to its permanent collection, archaeologists, museologists, ceramologists, antiquarians, collectors and other specialists can visit the museum’s vaults to study material taken from archaeological digs, as well as the archive and the library.
